ABOUT US
Who We Are

The Hampden Historical Society, founded and incorporated in 1970, is dedicated to preserving, interpreting, and sharing the history and heritage of Hampden, Maine, and the surrounding region. In its early years, the Society operated out of temporary locations until 1980, when it purchased the historic Kinsley House and established a permanent home.
Today, the Society serves as a community resource for historical research, education, preservation, and public programs. Through the work of dedicated volunteers, we collect, safeguard, and interpret the stories, artifacts, and buildings that make Hampden’s history meaningful.
Our Mission
To bring together people who are interested in the history of Hampden and its neighboring communities. We believe that understanding our local past enriches civic life, strengthens our connection to the state and nation, and fosters an appreciation for our shared American heritage.
Our Vision
A vibrant community in which Hampden’s history is actively preserved, explored, and celebrated—serving as a source of learning, belonging, and pride for generations to come.
Our Values
Stewardship • Preservation • Education • Community • Volunteerism
OUR HISTORIC CAMPUS
HISTORIC OUTBUILDINGS
Our campus includes several additional historic structures, including the original carriage house—now housing a summer kitchen display—along with a reconstructed blacksmith shop and the recently built trolley hut. Together, these buildings showcase elements of daily life, craftsmanship, and local industry in Hampden’s past.
