The Kinsley Cane
2025 Honor Awarded to Mary Burns
Each year, the Hampden Historical Society presents the Kinsley Cane to the town’s oldest resident (by nomination), honoring longevity and a deep connection to the community. Passed from one recipient to the next, the cane serves as a meaningful symbol of Hampden’s history and the individuals who have helped shape it over time.

At the Hampden Historical Society’s monthly meeting on July 28, 2025, the Kinsley Cane was awarded to Mary Burns, by President Karen Bailey, recognizing her as the town’s oldest citizen. We extend our warmest congratulations to Mary on this special honor.

A bit of local history: years ago, Mary’s family lived on Main Street in Hampden, where her mother served as postmaster—another thread connecting her story to the fabric of the town. Her award was presented after Jim Husson's program about the Postal History of Hampden.
