Annual Meeting and Potluck Supper
Check out our new exhibit!
The Hampden Historical Society is delighted to introduce a new exhibit at our location, 83 Main Road South, Hampden. This achievement has been made possible thanks to the generous support of the Chase, Swalec, and Bagley families, as well as Paul Hallett. Special gratitude also goes to Will Nickerson and Rod Stanhope for their restoration efforts, enabling us to preserve and add interpretive signage to the historic Trolley Hut, once situated in Dorothea Dix’s Park.
From 1896 to 1924, the trolley provided a vital connection between Bangor and Hampden, with Dorothea Dix’s Park serving as one of its stops. It was an essential mode of transportation for the community, frequently used by hundreds, until the automobile revolutionized travel.
We warmly invite you to visit and experience this fascinating glimpse into a bygone era that played a crucial role in the daily lives of many in Hampden.

Here's a "curiosity." Examine the picture and identify the structure that the arrow points to. It was located next to Arthur Braithwaite’s store at the upper corner circa 1915, almost across from the Hardware store. Click here for the answer.
